Obituary of Elaine "Laine" Wickens (nee Wood)
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Laine Wickens announces her peaceful passing at the age of 73.
Cherished mother to Tracy Cook (Shannon) of Vancouver and Brendon of Windsor. Proud Nana to Alyssa and Landon Langlois of Windsor; Dexter and Finleigh Cook of Vancouver and Connor Thornewell (Shaniece) of Beaumont, Alberta. Great grandmother to Wesley and Lennon. Predeceased by parents Ken and Patricia Wood (Swalwell) and by stepfather Roger Cunningham. Forever remembered by her siblings Allan Wood (Sheila) of Peterborough; Brent Wood of Windsor and Laurie Lamb (Doug) of Windsor; Stepsisters Alexis Anderson of Pembroke; Sheila Cunningham (Bill) of New Zealand and Martha Cunningham of Ottawa. Laine will be sadly missed by her dearest friend Mary Kay Amlin, Daughter-in-Law Samantha Langlois and by many nieces, nephews and cousins from around the world.
Finally, she will be missed by her fur babies Boomer (who predeceased her a month ago) and Angus. To all that knew her, Laine had several loves: First and foremost, she loved her family and friends. Laine graduated from Centralia College as an Animal Health Technician. She loved all animals… big and small but especially loved horses. The Kentucky Derby was her favourite event of the year when everything would stop for her! Laine was also an avid and talented knitter and, over the years, attended many local craft shows displaying her knitted children’s toys, custom dog sweaters and other items. Everywhere she went she met and made many new friends.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the doctors, nurses and staff in the ICU at Windsor Regional Hospital, Ouellette Campus. Your expertise and compassion will never be forgotten. As per Laine’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private Celebration of Life will be held at an appropriate time in the future. Laine left a footprint (or a hoof print) with all who knew and loved her and will be truly missed.
“Run For The Roses” Laine.
